Repatriation to Armenia
Repatriation is the act of returning to one’s homeland after a long absence. In the case of Armenians, this absence can span not just decades, but entire generations. Despite the challenges, returning is possible and is supported by numerous positive examples.

The Diaspora and Western Armenia
Many Armenians worldwide originate from Western Armenia and may lack close ties to the modern Republic of Armenia. However, proficiency in the Western Armenian language, distinct cultural features, and a shared identity create a strong bond. Armenians from Middle Eastern countries successfully relocate and find their place in Armenia, despite differences in mentality.
Armenians from Russia and Post-Soviet Countries
Many have lost their native language or possess only basic proficiency. This should not be an obstacle! The Russian language is widely used in Armenia, making the adaptation process much easier for Russian speakers. However, it is important to start learning Armenian early—especially for the sake of the next generation.

Repatriation to Armenia: Its Importance for the Nation and the Diaspora
The most crucial point to emphasize is that all Armenians worldwide, without exception, have only one state—the Republic of Armenia. It is a country where Armenian is the state language, and where the safety of every individual is not just a government program, but a core cultural value of Armenian society (much like in Armenian communities globally). While the current population is just over three million, Armenia has the capacity and the need for many more. Repatriation is the essential mechanism through which every Armenian from across the globe can contribute to the maximum development and betterment of their country. Armenia has always been the place where West meets East—a unique strategic advantage that, when properly utilized, offers endless possibilities.
Legal Opportunities for Repatriants
Armenian legislation provides simplified conditions for obtaining:
Temporary / Permanent Residency (TRP/PR) This process does not require language proficiency and includes the right to duty-free import of personal belongings.
Many Armenians from Russia and former Soviet countries initially apply for citizenship under the simplified procedure or for residency permits (TRP/PR) without the immediate intention of moving. However, we often observe a fascinating process: after securing their legal status and becoming better acquainted with Armenia, many begin to reconsider their plans and gradually connect their lives with their ancestral homeland. Some visit frequently to explore the country, while others immerse themselves in Armenian life as quickly as possible—finding jobs, starting businesses, learning the language, and eventually realizing they cannot imagine living anywhere else. We have witnessed this repeatedly in our years of work. We believe this is the most far-sighted position for Armenians who want to ensure their children do not assimilate into other cultures, becoming lost to the Armenian world, and who prefer to invest their energy and potential into the development of their own nation rather than a foreign land.
